  1. 1951- . Right-wing president of Haiti
  2. 1971-86. Known as Baby Doc, he succeeded his
  3. father Francois Duvalier, becoming, at the
  4. age of 19, the youngest president in the
  5. world. He continued to receive support from
  6. the USA but was pressured into moderating
  7. some elements of his father's regime, yet
  8. still tolerated no opposition. In 1986, with
  9. Haiti's economy stagnating and with
  10. increasing civil disorder, Duvalier fled to
  11. France, taking much of the Haitian treasury
  12. with him.
